The aac Workshop USA Special dealt with the ExxonMobil Building, a high-rise also know as Exxon Tower located in Houston, Texas.

How can the potential of the vacant office building be used to create necessary living space and at the same time contribute to the revitalization of the urban environment?

The 16 aac scholarship holders spent four weeks working intensively on this question. Using comprehensive building data and analyses of the urban context, they developed usage concepts that considered both functional and social requirements. The high-rise at 800 Bell Street was conceived as part of its urban context, with its adjacent areas being developed alongside it as a multifunctional superblock.

Further information about the exhibition can be found on the Rice School of Architecture’s website.
