Sustainability

The visiting professors at the aac, Werner Sobek and Rainer Hascher, are amongst the most important representatives of sustainable building in Germany. Sobek, one of the best known German structural engineers, counters the argument that sustainable design is incompatible with aesthetics. Rainer Hascher, founding member of the German Society for Sustainable Building, discusses the subject both in relation to urban design and innovative energy conservation concepts for buildings.

Werner Sobek, who received his doctorate in Structural Engineering, founded Werner Sobek Consulting Engineers in Stuttgart in 1992. He now manages seven offices worldwide. Since 1994 Werner Sobek has been Professor at the Institute for Lightweight Building, Design and Construction at the University of Stuttgart.

Rainer Hascher
has been running a practice in partnership with Sebastian Jehle since 1992. Since 1993 he has been Head of the Department for Construction Design and Climate-adapted Construction at the Technical University of Berlin.
