Gerhard Wittfeld was born in Moers, Germany in 1968. He studied architecture at the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule in Aachen from 1989 to 1995 and graduated with diploma in 1995. He had a teaching assignment at RWTH at the Chair of Architecture and Building Typology from 1997 to 2004 and a deputy professorship at the Faculty of Architecture of FH Bochum from 2004 to 2007. He has received various awards and prizes such as the Springorum Commemorative Medal and an award of the Hünnebeck Thyssen Foundation and is holder of the DAI's Grand Prix for Building Culture. He is a member of the extended board of the BDA since 2000. From 2001 to 2006 he was competition consultant of the Chamber of Architects NRW, from 2006 to 2012 Architectures’ Advisory Board of the city of Aachen. Since 2006 he is in the design advisory board of the city of Gummersbach. Together with Klaus Kada he founded the office kadawittfeldarchitektur based in Aachen and Berlin in 1999.
